Cufa is an economic development agency in Asia and Pacific. We focus on financial inclusion, improving financial literacy and supporting economic livelihoods through employment, education and enterprise programs.
Cufa is seeking a capable, passionate and highly motivated Project officer to assist communities in managing market prices and reusing leftover products. This position will be based in its office in Phnom Penh, with three week project implementation in rural areas of Kampong Cham and Tboung Khmum Provinces.
The Project officer is responsible for empowering groups of farmers and micro entrepreneurs to cooperate with each other in maintaining and controlling the price of their products to market, as well as processing leftover crops/products into long-life products.
This includes:
- Facilitate farmers and groups of micro-businesses to work together to form associations
- Provide technical support to the associations on how to evaluate market prices, target customers, and meet market demand
- Provide skill training on how to communicate with customers, conduct product campaigns, and work with group leaders to identify and select appropriate markets
- Guide associations to work with their members in recycling the leftover products into processed food
- Guide and build capacity in the association to work to distribute products to customers
- Empower members of the association to open savings accounts with nearby savings groups
- Work with partners and stakeholders to register the group to be a certified association, and identify key resources to support the group with technical assistance
- Provide project progress and performance updates by preparing monthly and quarterly reports
- Strengthen community development activities, and integrate strategies in all of Cufa’s projects to mainstream people with disabilities, achieve gender equality, ensure child protection, and include other marginalized groups
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Good English and Khmer skills (both written and verbal)
- Experience working with rural communities and successfully forming associations
- Evidence of successfully supporting associations to manage product prices and control market demand
- Skills in training members of associations to successfully target their customers
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the capacity to maintain open and constructive communication, particularly in rural communities
- Flexibility to work for extended periods of time out in the field, sometimes in remote areas
- Demonstrated experience in integrating strategies to mainstream people with disabilities, achieve gender equality, as well as including marginalised groups
- Ability to work under pressure and create a good team work environment
- Proven ability to provide detailed reporting of project activities
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Knowledge of, and involvement in, the credit union movement
- Ability to work independently, with excellent priority-setting and flexibility
- Good computer literacy, with skills in using Microsoft Office, internet and email
- Motorbike licence
